Jamrock’s 7 ways to declutter your home & life.

Organizational Strategist, Stacey Dyce of Atlanta’s Jamrock C.S shares tips to live a clutter free life in 2016 and explains how our environment  influences our happiness, success and peace of mind.

A new year rewards us with new beginnings and resolutions.  For some people their goals for the new year may be to lose weight, be more spiritual, get a new style, make more money, find  balance between work and personal life…  the list goes on and on. Above all these things, it’s safe to say that people  generally want a more focused and organized  life that allows them to fulfill all of their goals and resolutions, leading them to be happier and still.  Like most working professionals, I get overwhelmed with my hectic schedule, and an endless to-do list coupled with balancing my life.

livingpink

Sometimes through all of this, maintaining organization becomes challenging but our environment dictates our mood, focus and well being either allowing us to soar in our endeavors or struggle through our clutter.  A cluttered environment at times yields to a cluttered mind.  This isn’t true for everyone because obviously there are many artists who thrive in complete disarray. If you are looking to be more focused and organized this year you have to start by decluttering your living and work space. livingposh

Organizational Strategist, Stacey Dyce is a powerful woman and entrepreneur who will elevate your lifestyle through organization so that you can unleash the best in you with a sharp focused mind.  As the the Owner of Jamrock Cleaning Services, Stacey doesn’t just clean and organize space she is a fierce creative artist who can transform your life with  her peaceful energy and magical touch.

Stacey also teaches clients how to maintain the sleek and neat environment that she creates. She really helped me become better in maintaining a much more organized living and working space. She finds a place for the things we love.  For example i have a lot of throw pillows, cards and notebooks  (some  just laying around) but Stacey found a perfect space for each of my pillows, cards & notebooks. She values our things and understand that they have meaning and purpose for each individual. The impact she has on her clients’ lives becomes a  powerful  lifestyle transformation allowing us to lives our best lives ever. Check out Jamrock’s  7 tips on how to declutter in 2016!

livingbohemian
If you love a Bohemian/African influence filled with patterns, pillows and lots of throws like me  its okay, Stacey recommends that everything can be in plain sight for the visual effect but still must be slightly stored neatly.

Tip 1. Create a to-do List for all the projects in your home that need cleaning like your attic, storage room, refrigerator, ceilings, ceiling fan, or baseboards. Please give yourself a realistic time frame, I recommend 1 year to complete everything on your list. Remember Rome was not built in 1 day.

livingdecorative-ceiling-designs-forl-luxury-living-room-design
Keeping your high ceilings and lights clean is important because when dust collects up high it will fall and this is a major no no that Stacey doesn’t tolerate.

Tip 2. Downsize/Consolidation will instantly create more space any room simply practice getting rid of things that don’t make sense like having 4 umbrellas if you’re a bachelor/ bachelorette, lots of brushes, unused products etc.  Combining half empty bottles like conditioners, sprays  or shampoo downsizes the clutter. Also keep your products in compartments/jars too.
bathroom

bathroom2
shelves, jars, and boxes are your best friends, use them in bathrooms too.
Tip 3. Clean as you go. Practice returning things back to its designated home after using it, clean the kitchen as you cook, and make use of your cabinets and kitchen shelves. (see below) You can create your own shelves easily. Also fold/hang up your laundry after they dry. These are great habits that will keep your home more organized.
livingkitchenyellow
Tip 4.  At least 2X a year move around the furniture in each room. This cost efficient form of remodeling will minimize de-coloration on floors(carpet), provide you with a full inventory of your items that may be broken or needs to be replaced, and brings a fresh new look to your home.
living-room-colorswriting
Tip 5. Get a Blessing Box or trunk. Place this box in your closet, laundry room or in the garage and as you come across items ( clothes, shoes or other household items) around your house that you don’t need or want place them in the box.
livingsliderivintagetrunkcoffee7
Once the box is full drop them off or schedule a pick up with your local Goodwill or shelter. Remember to receive blessings you must first be one to others. Also you can be creative and use a trunk for  both decor and storage like the one pictured above. You can place items in your trunk as opposed to having them laying around. Also having a shelf with compartments can help you from creating clutter. Just like your favorite pillows & throws every object in your space can have a home.
livingoffice
Tip 6. Recycle. Reuse newspaper in place of paper towels to clean windows and mirrors, give old blankets to the family pet, use holey socks to dust furniture or damaged towels to dry your car after going through the car wash are just a few creative cost efficient was to recycle.

Tip 7. Hire a cleaning service Don’t feel ashamed, embarrassed, or disappointed that your living condition requires help. Cleaners are not hired for their opinion their job is to help relieve your stress and maintaining cleanliness. Make sure you personalize your service and how frequent to ensure you get quality service.- Stacey

That 70’s trend…(with a classy twist for 2016) by Ola!

A new year means new trends but we’re actually going back in time to the 70’s in 2016. That 70’s trend is where a lot of iconic trends started and you’re going to see this on the runways in 2016.  A few things that you can include in your wardrobe to stay on top of the trens are: vivid colors, mix and match patterns, and rich fabrics. This year it is all about freedom to express your individuality with fashion. With that said, the new black this year is orange.

See all of the action from behind the scenes in the gallery...

Bold colors, loose fitting sweater dresses, big collars, 70’s inspired patterns, African prints and Victorian style dresses are things to look for when it comes to neck lines you will see a lot of plunging v necklines, and also high color necklines as well.

Accessories for 2016 is all about vintage gold, big and bold style,
decorated headbands, head wraps and pearls which you will see a lot of in London fashion week this year.

For Hair trends this year I would like to use the word organic to describe the 2016 look!

This year our hot hair theme is all about  keeping it natural and simple.  We’re going back to our roots with natural highlights, natural big curls and those bold beautiful braids. For hair inspiration, take cues from gorgeous natural beauties Teyonah Parris, Solange, Leona Lewis and our runway picks below.

Incorporate ballet in your everyday wear

0

Who doesn’t love the ballet? Even better, what is more perfect than a ballet inspired look? Its comfortable yet chic, casual yet classic, sporty but feminine. This year I dressed up as the black swan for Halloween and re-fell in love with ballet looks of course.

balletnat

Since then we’ve been obsessing over different looks you can create to incorporate ballet in your everyday wear.

All you’ll need is a white/black cami or leotard, leg warmers, finger-less gloves, flats, a tutu-inspired skirt or dress, shades of pink makeup and a ballerina bun. We found some looks from polyvore, pintrest and my wardrobe. You don’t have to do the entire style in one look, instead add doses of ballet to something you would wear every day, this way you’ll escape from looking like you’re auditioning to be in the Nutcracker.

mistymain

  1. A simple white/black cami as seen on Natalie Portman in the Black Swan.  You can wear this inside your favorite sweaters, pullovers, or hoodie.blackswanelegant
  2. A tutu inspired skirt, captures the essence of the ballet.

niabun

3. Nia Long is rocking a perfect ballerina bun.  This simple easy up-do is classic and minimal.

4. To keep your ballet inspired look for an evening affair, a short-sleeve sheer lace dress like the one Mila Kunis is wearing will do the trick or you can opt for a very traditional sleek ballerina girl look as seen below.

How to get perfect Abs with B.Nichols

Our resident Celebrity personal trainer and fitness expert, B. Nichols stopped by 7th and Lotus to give us an Abs workout and taught us how to get and maintain the perfect Abs.

abs1

First and foremost everything still begins with our diet and what we are eating. So we have to still follow the meal plans from last time. To keep it tight and keep it right, start with crunches. Crunches are your best friend.  You can do crunches at home while watching TV so there’s no excuse to not get it in.  Now our friend, New York Giants Dwayne Harris says he does all his workouts at a 100 count meaning 100 crunches, 100 sit-ups, 100 jumping jacks etc but because not everyone is a star athlete in awesome shape, B wants to start off by keeping it simple for you.  B says do 3 sets of every exercise  for 30 seconds and this is also great for getting your perfect abs.

bnich

3 sets of mountain climbers for 30 seconds each

3 sets of high knees.  Stand in one place and get them up high!

Do core jumps for five minutes.  Start by being on all four on the floor (like a push up position) and get up and jump up and get back on all fours and repeat this for 5 minutes.

Do Ab twist with a weight ball from side to side.  This is perfect for your abs.

If you need help and one on one training you can get in contact with B.  Connect with him on instagram.  @bnicholsatl

Here are some additional tips from Men’s Health below.

The inverted crunch

Instead of lifting your upper body, lift your lower body. This is a really small movement with all the emphasis on your lower abs – often a forgotten area.

Abs and obliques

As you come up, twist your upper body so your right elbow points to your left knee and vice versa. You don’t want your elbow to touch the knee, just point to it.

Ab straps

This is the best overall ab exercise. Hang down, and lift your knees up to your chest and down again in a controlled motion. To make it harder, use a straight leg raise. Keep it slow.

The total crunch

Instead of lifting just your upper or lower body, lift them both simultaneously. Try to touch your knees and elbows, to work both your upper and lower abs at the same time.

From Bad Credit Score to Millionaire: How Joe Bayen’s journey is helping Students & Millennials

Joe Bayen, Ceo and Founder of Lenny Loans Inc shares his remarkable story and his journey is something that every millennial and student needs to read. You will be inspired, enjoy.

Dedicated to Past, Present and Future Students

I have been fortunate enough to have experienced the full spectrum of the American dream. I was born in Cameroon, Africa, from humble beginnings and grew up in Paris, France, until my late teens. I obtained a track and field scholarship at the University of Miami, where I graduated in International Finance and marketing.

In later years , I became the CEO and founder at ICS Mobile, and thanks to the rise of the smartphone industry, I was able to turn the company from bootstrapped into a multimillion dollar mobile advertising business.

Most recently, I joined Science Inc. as an entrepreneur in residence and I am currently the CEO and founder at Lenny Inc. , a company solely focused towards building tools to improve student credit scores.

Just a Student

The following story is the tale of a student who had to navigate the US credit scoring system with limited educational resources. This is a unique but not uncommon plight, currently affecting thousands of students on a daily basis. Students that are struggling to make ends meet and often resort to using credit cards as a mean to subsist.

Education Education Education

Education has been the most common recurring theme throughout this journey. Indeed, I left cameroon at an early age with the blessing of my mother, as she sought a better education for me. I opted to run track, as it was my only viable option to obtain a scholarship and study in the United States. I was proud to graduate from the University of Miami with a 3.67 GPA, but ashamed to join the workforce with a mediocre 590 credit score. What gave?

To begin with, English was my second language, which caused me to quickly stumble out of the blocks with a 2.73 GPA, but I was fortunately able to recover and improve my grades overtime.

The US credit score system was also the equivalent of a foreign language. It similarly started out with an early stumble, but it took me 7 long years to finally heal from that self inflicted wound.

Aladdin and The Banks: Easy Access to Credit

It was the turn of the century, the Glass Steagall act had just been repealed by congress, and getting a credit card as a freshmen in college was far too easy. Banks were very aggressive and willing to offer students anything to fill up credit card application forms.

Fully loaded with a weapon of mass purchase, a $500 unsecured credit card, I proceeded to embark on a perilous credit history building path with no roadmap at hand.

A Beach Way too Far

I was looking forward to spending some time on the Miami beaches, but I quickly discovered that the campus, located in Coral Gables, was a good 16 miles away from the ocean.

The optic of spending the coming years in Miami without the freedom of enjoying the ocean would have been torture. Hence, possessing a car remained the single best option at my disposal.

Getting a Car With No Credit History

“Control yourself so others won’t have to do it for you.” — John Wooden

I had no credit history, I was young and spoke english with a strong french accent and I proceeded to enter the local ford dealership with a bright smile on my face. This was the equivalent of the three little pigs heading for a picnic in the big bad wolf’s mouth.

My monthly scholarship stipend was $975 a month and I decided to allocate $200 a month towards my car payments. A quick test drive ensued, we sat down at the negotiation table and $330 per month later, I became the proud owner of a brand new ford escort ZX2 that I could not afford.

Getting Back on my Feet

The car purchase rapidly landed me in a rough financial predicament and I had to resort to using my credit card to supplement my income. However, the price tag for using such a card, as a student with no credit history, was a daunting 19.6% interest rate. This situation lead me to progressively enter a vicious cycle of late payment fees and maxed out cards, each action contributing to further deteriorate my credit score.

The future looked bleak, but on a humid florida night came a life changing epiphany. I realized that many students residing on campus loved to indulge on fast food restaurants, but they were relatively out of reach from a walking distance. Uber did not exist, and a cab ride made no economical sense. There was a supply and a demand but no service to bridge the gap.

This is how “University 4.0 delivery service”, an ancient version of postmates or grubhub, was founded. For just $5 an order, I went on to deliver some fresh fast food to my fellow students on a daily basis. The revenue was not extravagant, but it significantly improved my finances and allowed me to finally pay my credit card late fees. However, little did I know that these late payments would remain a black mark on my credit history for the following 7 years.

Meeting Anne Michelle: The Right Way to Build a Credit Score

Following my move to Los Angeles in 2004, I struck up a friendship with Anne Michelle. At the time, she was just a few years removed from college, but somehow, she was already able to afford a brand new Volkswagen Jetta. She later confided in me that her monthly payments were just $200. I was completely stunned by her announcement and wondered how she managed to secure this deal at such a young age.

It turned out that in her youth, her mother taught her that building a credit history early, budgeting and managing her credit cards responsibly, would lead to significant savings in terms of low interest rates on large purchases.

She obviously took her advice to heart as it landed her a credit score hovering at 800 points on a 850 points scale. This is how Anne Michelle quickly became the recipient of some of the lowest interest rates the market had to offer.

“Anne Michelle’s path would have saved me roughly $6000 over a 4 year span.”

Following Anne Michelle’s path would have saved me roughly $6000 over a 4 year span. Her story made me more determined to repair my credit score and after 5 years of budgeting and sacrificing, I finally became credit card debt free.

With more knowledge, this long and unnecessary struggle could have been avoided. That experience has ever since fueled my desire to develop efficient tools to help improve student credit scores.

Today’s Credit Environment

Today, in a post 2008 financial crisis , millennials are faced with a traditional credit score system which favors credit card ownership, mortgage payments, installment payments, and so on. They are literally becoming an outcast group of our society, making it increasingly difficult for them to gain access to credit. In this environment, it would have been very challenging, for an individual like Anne Michelle, to graduate with a stellar credit score.

The following data provided by iD analytics further reinforces this reality as 33% of millennials are unbanked and 63% do not have credit cards. The most interesting part of this analysis is the fact that, as a group, millennials are outperforming other generations when it comes down to delinquency rates, which indicates that something is fundamentally broken with our system.

A New Path Forward

For the past couple of years, we have seen the emergence of the sharing economy with company such as Uber, Airbnb and more. How about developing a platform where individuals, as a group, could cooperate to help build each other’s credit scores?

Over the past year, we assembled a team, which has now grown to 17 experts, to develop such a platform. A platform that, we believe, will disrupt the way people gain access to credit, use credit, as well as build credit scores.

“Most importantly, it simultaneously helps build student credit scores.”

Our upcoming mobile application, named Lenny, rewards students with instant access to credit of up to $500 based on their GPA . The app also offers balance increases of up to $300 every semester. Most importantly, it simultaneously helps build student credit scores.

Lenny will be live in the App Store in the first quarter of 2016, early access is available at www.getlenny.com . If you know any students in need of budgeting and credit score improvement tips, our dedicated blog should serve them well.

Young millennials are currently entering the workforce with a student loan debt handicap. Our entire team is hard at work to ensure that they will not false start with a credit score handicap.

Baby Corlena’s first time hearing: A mother’s story

A few weeks ago my friend, Kalonda called me and told me that her daughter Corlena had
hearing loss. She hadn’t shared this before because she said she didn’t want her friends o be worried. She was going to meet with a specialist and 5 month old Corlena was going to have to get hearing aids. Immediately I began to cry. I felt sad for Corlena as well as Kalonda and her husband Cori. Even though Kalonda reassured me that all would be fine I could only imagine what challenges Corlena and her would have to endure in the future. When Kalonda and her family went to the Specialist she recorded Corlena’s reaction to her hearing aids. It was the opposite of what many of us would have thought and it transformed my pre-conceived notions about disabilities as a whole.

http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P18fMaIa7_4

Corlena was excited and screamed as Kalonda and her grandmother spoke to her. At 5
months old, she was overjoyed to simply hear, something we probably take for granted.
She removed every ounce of sadness that anyone could have had. Despite this as a mother, Kalonda said finding out Corlena had hearing loss was not easy for her and Cori to accept. Kalonda and Cori are picture perfect couple and their wedding in 2012 was like an experience from a Disney’s fairy-tale. Cori is a Dean of Students at KIPP Academy in St. Louis and Kalonda is a noted choreographer and singer who operates R.O.C.C Academy a dance studio catering to lower-income kids that may not be able to afford the highly priced dance studios in St. Louis.

kalonda cori cloyd

She is a strong ambitious God fearing woman and has always been the rock for her friends so although I was surprised about her not telling me about Corlena’s complications I understood. After Corlena’s priceless reaction to hearing, Kalonda’s now more open about talking about what her family has been enduring. She is also beginning to advocate for parents of kids with disabilities who don’t qualify for state assistance but also may not be able to afford the medical expenses and treatment that their kids need.

corlena cloyd: baby's first time hearing

“Learning about Corlena’s hearing impairment was very difficult, The first thing you experience as a parent with a child with any form of disability or medical concern is DENIAL. When Corlena was born she was tested for hearing loss and she failed. Two months later we had to go back and she failed again. We then took her to an E.N.T doctor and he said her ear drums were clear so we assumed there was an error in the initial test. But after we took her back to the hospital she failed the test again and that’s when they made the diagnosis. We got the call on a Friday from her audiologist and he said she had permanent hearing loss in both ears. We really struggled with and contemplated what could have gone wrong. Now I’ve learned that you first have to accept whatever the results are. Trust in God and know that he has his hands all over your baby. Like many parents we were an emotional wreck on and off for a few weeks. Once we realized that the situation wasn’t going to change and accepted it, we began to see that we are blessed in the midst of it all. There are parents and children going through things much more difficult than us. Someone has it worse than our child. Someone is burying their child and someone has a child in the hospital that may not ever leave. Although Corlena struggles with hearing loss, she is able to walk, breath and speak. Once you accept what doctors have determined, ACT immediately. The longer you prolong medical assistance for your child’s diagnosis the harder you’ll make it for your child to succeed. There are many resources to assist families. Although we are not qualified to receive free assistance it has changed how we look at life and finances. Now saving for her future is a huge priority. The Missouri first step program takes care of Corlena’s hearing medical expenses until she turns three and after that you’re on your own. Hopefully through this we can help find ways to assist parents and like us that are caught in the middle. Outside of my family and friends, I would love other parents and people in general to begin to understand that having a disability doesn’t make you any different than anyone else. If you have a child with disabilities, i hope Corlena’s smile and laughter will encourage you. Now I see that God has turned our situation into a blessing. “- Kalonda Cloyd  To help Corlena go to Corlena’s page
