by Abesi Manyando— The women who inspired and defined the word “supermodels” just landed Balmain’s 2016 campaign proving why their legendary beauty will always be in demand. Time has had no effect on Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Naomi Campbell whose is still snagging cover magazines and ruling the runway without missing a beat.
The three beauties are 1/3rd of what was known as the “Big 6” in the nineties. – The close-knit group of popular supermodels included Naomi, Claudia, Cindy, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss. These women defined an era in which they became superstars. They replaced actresses as the driving force of brand endorsements, lucrative deals and film roles. Balmain’s leading designer, Oliver Rousteing was uber-excited to work with the models in the Steven Klein–shot spread.
“Those four singular talents have inspired me from day one,” he said in a press release. “When I was a schoolboy in Bordeaux, it was their editorials that first made clear to me the amazing transformative power of fashion. Still today, many years on, their iconic images are often found amongst the jumble on mood boards in my (and almost every other designer’s) atelier. To say that working with them was a dream come true is no exaggeration.”
